Its official, the world has been Cumberbatched.
Everyone, including my mama, is suffering from the Cumberbatch fever.
We need more Cumberbatch! Spread that Cumberbatch love!
It’s a good thing then that we have been treated to a number of photos and video clips of our favorite guy. From a paparazzi sighting where we spotted the “Star Trek” side burns to the Oscars party photos, Cumberbatch has been everywhere.
When Oscar night rolled around, his legion of fans waited patiently scanning the red carpet looking for the sexiest cheekbones to grace this planet to set foot on the carpet. A Where’s Cumberbatch search—very much like Where’s Waldo except you looked for cheekbones— was conducted for more than four hours. But alas, Cumberwatch 2012 was in vain, since he never intended to walk down the red carpet—a miscommunication/misunderstanding between fans and designer Spencer Hart—but rather watch the show from the 20th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party.
Fans were also given a rare treat when photos of the top secret Star Trek sequel set were leaked online. In the photos Cumberbatch’s character, dressed in what appears to be a variation of the Star Fleet uniform, can clearly be seen battling it out with Zachary Quinto’s Spock. In typical JJ Abrams’ secret fashion, no one knows who or what Cumberbatch is playing, though, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that he’ll be playing the baddie in the film.
This won’t be the first time Cumberbatch will grace the big screen as a villain in 2013. He’s also playing Smaug the dragon in the highly anticipated Hobbit films. Not only will he be playing the villainous dragon—physically performing the role through motion capture—but he’ll also be voicing the Necromancer. However fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Smaug in the first installment of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey coming out later this year may be left waiting. According to IMDB, Smaug isn’t expected to be in the first installment of two-parter. He will, however, be in The Hobbit: There and Back Again slated for release December 13, 2013. When commenting on his role as Smaug, Cumberbatch has said “He’s an exceptionally beautiful, vain, devilish and also, in a lightly weird way, an innocent character. He’s fooled by an invisible midget, its quite frustrating. There’s something quite exceptional about the power he has over people and the imagination of that world that is unlocked in this story.”
There’s also a huge rumor going around that Cumberbatch has been tapped to play “The Master” in the 50th anniversary episode of Dr. Who. Whether Cumberbatch has accepted the role hasn’t been confirmed, but with Moffat at the helm of the Dr. Who franchise, how can he possibly say no?
But fear not Cumberbitches, you won’t have to wait too long to see your man back on the screen. Parade’s End, a five part mini series starring Cumberbatch is expected to debut on HBO and BBC2 later this year.
And earlier today the National Theater released a new trailer for Frankenstein. The stage production directed by Danny Boyle, starred Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating the role of Dr. Frankenstein and The Creature. The production was recorded and played in cinemas last summer. Audiences will once again have an opportunity to check Frankenstein at movie theaters worldwide for a limited time only beginning June. You can check out the trailer at the National Theater website or here.
By the way, can I take this moment to say that I’m loving his Star Trek hair. I just want to run my fingers through those bangs. And yes, he has a Union Jack flag in the shape of a heart on the back of his iPhone. Can he get any hotter?!
